We were bedazzled by this unusual tribal rug woven in the Middle Atlas mountains of eastern Morocco. We purchased it in the Imperial City of Meknes -one of our favorite destinations. We returned to the same riad (inn) where we were guests nine years ago. Our relationship with our hosts has developed into a special friendship and they graciously welcomed us into their home as “family.”
We learned from Abdellah, our carpet connoisseur, that the orange in this rug is derived from grenadine skin and the red from poppies. The blue is most likely from indigo. The striking designs represent the "tattoos" or traditional symbols of the tribe. Notice the stylized dunes and the road along the border.
Imagine this vibrant carpet transforming an area of your home, bringing a stunning expression of color and design to a wall or floor.
